In the traditional numbering some cards could be interpreted that are less than others, because some numbers are do it by rest: Four (IV)<Five (V), because 4 (IV)= 1-5. In this acummulative numbering every card is a part the the sucessive cards need, because without all the precedents it number wouldn't exist, and all it's done with sums. Four (IIII) part of Five (V), because 5 (V)= IIII+I. In this way you wouldn't see in this way a left number smaller thant the right number (a rest), it's inverse (a sum): 9= IX or VIIII IX it's only posibly doing a rest: X-I.
